The tasks of the Asia/Pacific regional forum:

Who should attend the forum?

Why is the forum being held in Australia?

Australia is one of the most economically developed and mature countries in the region, with longstanding, close business connections and trade representation in the strategically important countries of the region.  Australia is a politically stable, democratic country, with a well-established legal system and an economy that is both mature and growing. In a 2016 survey of Economic Freedom, Australia ranked fifth in the world.

It should be noted that the last twenty years particularly have seen a significant growth in Australian business and trade activity in the Asian region, which has provided invaluable insights into making contacts and conducting business effectively in this unique, culturally diverse region.

The holding of this forum in Australia is particularly significant at this time, when the European Union is actively working towards establishing free trade agreements with Australia, New Zealand and other ASEAN countries. The beneficiaries of such eventual agreements are bound to include Latvian businesses with an eye for export, which will not only have a desire to, but also be well equipped to successfully enter these markets.

Background of the Forum:

The World Latvian Economics and Innovations Regional Forum: A View to Asia, Australia and the Pacific Ocean Region, is the first forum of this kind to be held outside of Latvia. It is based on the experience gained in holding the first two World Latvian Economics and Innovations Forums in Riga, which highlighted the benefits of capitalising on the wealth of experience and contacts of business professionals and entrepreneurs who have a bond to Latvian heritage but live overseas, and providing them with an opportunity to be more directly involved in Latvian economic growth.

The World Latvian Economics and Innovations Regional Forum: A View to Asia, Australia and the Pacific Ocean Region will be held in Melbourne, Australia from the 29th to the 30th December, 2016 concurrently with the 56th Australian Latvian Cultural Festival, which traditionally attracts a large number of Latvians from most Australian cities.

Programme of the forum:

29th December, 2016: Formal sessions and presentations. Discussions and Working group sessions – exchange of ideas and experience.

30th December, 2016: Field trip to local businesses and manufacturers for practical information exchange.
