Traditionally, the combined choir concert has been one of the most popular and well attended events at previous Australian Latvian Cultural Festivals. With the exciting program that has been devised for this year’s event, we anticipate a similar result.

The first combined rehearsals for this year’s Cultural Festival were held in Melbourne recently, with a great turnout by not only Melbourne choristers, but also attendees from Sydney and Adelaide. The rehearsals were led by renowned Latvian conductor, maestro Ivars Cinkuss, who has become a regular and very welcome visitor to our shores over the last few years.

Concert director, Roberts Birze, provides the following insight in to what we can look forward to: “The combined choir program this year is both beautiful and uplifting. We have supplemented the essential and much loved traditional Latvian choir standards with a selection of songs that will also be on the program of the closing concert of the Latvian Song Festival in Rīga, as part of Latvia’s centenary celebrations in 2018. They are all songs that characterise and speak to the ingrained Latvian values of our love for God, fatherland and nature.”
