The aim of the Latvian Federation of Australia and New Zealand (LAAJ) is to facilitate:
The cooperation and collaboration of Australian and New Zealand Latvian organisations in relation to community, cultural and relief activities;
Development and preservation of Latvian culture in Australia and New Zealand;
Cooperation with representatives of Latvia and Latvian government departments and
Cooperation and collaboration with Latvian organisations in other countries.
The LAAJ upholds, assists, promotes, encourages and coordinates the community work of local Latvian organisations. The LAAJ also engages with Latvian individuals living abroad; the global Latvian umbrella organisation (the World Federation of Free Latvian Association – PBLA), as well as Latvian representatives and the government of Latvia.
The LAAJ fulfils its function in line with the LAAJ internal rules of incorporation as well as our stated goals.
At the forefront of these goals, is the need to promote and maintain Latvian cultural activities, provide Latvian educational opportunities to our next generations and to facilitate cooperation between Latvian organisations in Australia, New Zealand, Latvia and throughout the world.
LAAJ funding depends to a great degree on the results of our annual donation drive directly to the community. The LAAJ sincerely thanks all who contributed to our most recent call for donations, and wish to announce that the grand total donated this year reached $25,610.19.
Apart from this annual request for community donations, funding of the LAAJ also relies on membership dues from Latvian organisations and individuals, a small percentage from income producing Latvian social activities, any profit from the Biennial Latvian Cultural Festival, interest from accumulated funds, occasional testamentary bequests, as well as Latvian government funding of specific projects, if and when available.
LAAJ ir visu Austrālijā un Jaunzēlandē latviešu sabiedrības organizāciju jumta organizācija. LAAJ uztur, veicina, atbalsta, mudina un apvieno vietējo latviešu organizāciju darbību. Darbība notiek saskaņā ar LAAJ statūtiem un uzstādītajiem mērķiem.
Kā pašu svarīgāko uzskatām saglabāt un uzturēt latviešu kultūru, sniegt latvisko izglītību mūsu bērniem un jauniešiem un veicināt sadarbību starp latviešu organizācijām Austrālijā, Jaunzēlandē, Latvijā un visā plašajā pasaulē.
LAAJ pateicas ikvienam, kurš atbalstīja LAAJ darbību šī gada līdzekļu vākšanas akcijā. Ziedojumu kopsumma šogad sasniedza $25,610.19.
LAAJ ienākumi, bez ziedojumu akcijas ir biedru naudas no organizācijām un indvīdiem, latviešu sabiedrības sarīkojumu nodevas, Kultūras dienu atlikums, “augļi” rezerves noguldījumos, testementārie novēlējumi, kā arī Latvijas valsts atbalsts īpašiem projektiem.
