The “kokle”, and the playing thereof, is usually associated with traditional Latvian folk music. This ancient Latvian stringed instrument, however, has not only continued to be commonly used for the rendition of traditional folk melodies, but has also managed to find a new relevance in current times.
The individual timbre of the kokle provides a unique vehicle not only for traditional folk music, but also for many, more modern compositions.
