The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump has thanked the President of the Latvian Republic, Raimonds Vējonis, for his congratulatory letter on his appointment to the office, and has reiterated the USA position of remaining a staunch friend and ally of Latvia.
Donald Trump affirms that trans-Atlantic security is of the utmost importance, and that the USA remains firm in its commitment not only to NATO but also the bi-lateral relationship of the USA and Latvia.
President Trump’s letter continues: “I value highly the commitment of Latvia to achieving an investment of two percent of Gross Domestic Product to defence requirements, which serves as a good example for the equitable sharing of costs between allies for NATO membership. I also greatly appreciate the participation and contributions of the Latvian military in defence and anti-terrorism missions in Afghanistan and Iraq.”
The President of USA also highlights a willingness to develop business and investment opportunities between Latvia and the USA. “Latvia has achieved much in the improvement of the landscape for entrepreneurs and economic development, as witnessed by Latvia becoming a member nation of the OECD last July. I hope that we will be able to further these achievements in advancing the economic cooperation of our countries”, states President Trump.
President Trump also noted the century-old ties of friendship between USA and Latvia. “It was with genuine admiration that I viewed the efforts of Latvia to renew her independence and establish a viable and flourishing democracy. Today, I can proudly declare that the USA will remain an unshakeable friend and ally to Latvia. If I may add, as a fan of the New York “Knicks”, I also greatly value the contribution of Latvian basketball star, Kristaps Porziņģis to our line-up,” writes President Trump in his letter of thanks for the good wishes of Latvia in his commencement of term of office as President of the USA.
