On 14 December, in an official ceremony, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia, Dace Treija-Masī, presented her credentials to His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia.
In a following conversation, the officials shared views on political cooperation between the two countries and the need for expanding business contacts. Other topics discussed were the present-day security challenges, including the fight by the international community against ISIL. Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove pointed to the friendly relations between Australia and Latvia and the significant role of the Latvian community in Australia in building those relations. He also commended the contribution made by the Latvian community to Australia’s development.
In a discussion on relations between Australia and the European Union, Sir Peter Cosgrove noted the importance of the EU-Australia Free Trade Agreement for expanding economic contacts, and he expressed hope that negotiations on the deal could be started in the near future.
As part of her accreditation visit, Dace Treija-Masī will also go to Adelaide, Melbourne and Sidney, where she is to meet with the Latvian diaspora.

14. decembrī Latvijas Republikas vēstniece Dace Treija-Masī svinīgā ceremonijā iesniedza akreditācijas vēstuli Austrālijas Ģenerālgubernatoram Seram Pīteram Kosgrovam (His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia).
Sarunā ar Ģenerālgubernatoru Seru Pīteru Kosgrovu tika pārrunāta abu valstu politiskā sadarbība un nepieciešamība paplašināt ekonomiskos kontaktus. Tāpat sarunā tika apspriesti mūsdienu aktuālie drošības izaicinājumi, tai skaitā starptautiskās sabiedrības cīņa pret ISIL. Sers Pīters Kosgrovs norādīja uz draudzīgajām Austrālijas – Latvijas attiecībām un Latvijas kopienas Austrālijā lielo nozīmi šo attiecību veidošanā, kā arī augsti novērtēja latviešu kopienas pienesumu Austrālijas attīstībā.
Pārrunājot Austrālijas un Eiropas Savienības attiecības, Sers Pīters Kosgrovs atzīmēja ES – Austrālijas brīvās tirdzniecības līgumu un tā svarīgumu ekonomisko kontaktu paplašināšanā un izteica cerību, ka sarunas par līgumu varēs uzsākt jau tuvākajā laikā.
Akreditācijas vizītes ietvaros, Dace Treija-Masī apmeklēs arī Adelaidi, Melburnu un Sidneju, kur paredzētas tikšanās ar tautiešiem.
