White Tablecloth Celebration of the Restoration of Latvian Independence
On the 4th May we will celebrate the renewal of Latvia’s sovereignty after decades of Soviet occupation. Around the world Latvians come together for the ‘festival of white tablecloths’ to celebrate their nation’s renewed independence. The idea is that every person contributes to the table by bringing a dish to share. This will also be occurring at the Brisbane Latvian House this Saturday, 6th May at 1pm.
The Latvian Centenary events officially begin on 4th May when Latvians worldwide come together to celebrate the restoration of Latvian Independence. This simple idea of family, friends and neighbours sharing a meal at white clad tables – a great opportunity to discuss the future of Latvia and that of your community. We have celebrated this event before in Brisbane and continue the tradition this year.
