Choir concert
Organiser: Roberts Birze
The Massed Choir Concert is the musical culmination of the week-long Arts Festival and provides an opportunity to share another essential part of Latvian culture – choral music. Inspiration for the Festival’s Massed Choir Concert was drawn from Latvia’s rich choral heritage with its recurring themes of honour, love and respect for God, our Fatherland and nature. The program will showcase a cross-section of Latvian choral repertoire including folk songs, classical compositions and contemporary works, featuring composers from Latvia and Australia. This year’s program will also offer audiences the opportunity to hear a selection of works from the next Latvian Song Festival Gala Concert in 2018, a much anticipated event that will celebrate Latvia’s 100th Anniversary.
Participants will include local mixed choirs, male choirs and individual choristers from other cities. Guests from overseas will include the choir Anima from Latvia, led by Laura Leontjeva and Kārlis Rūtentāls, Kurši from New Zealand and individual choristers from other countries including Germany and Luxembourg. The highly esteemed composer from Latvia, Uģis Prauliņš, will also make a guest appearance. We are particularly thankful to maestro Ivars Cinkuss from Latvia, our Artistic Co-director and Principal Conductor, for his wealth of knowledge and inspiration in the inception and development of this program!
The concert will be followed by traditional community singing “Sadziedāšanās”. The concert hall will be transformed into a singing and dining hub with live music to accompany the joint singing. Song lyrics will be projected on a large screen so that everyone can join in.
Singing has phenomenal power in drawing people together, unifying them in its strength, its light and shade, its beauty, depth, vitality and colour!
We very much hope this celebration of Latvian song will be memorable for both choristers and audiences.
We thank each and everyone who has extended their assistance and support in the creation of this event and look forward to seeing you all at AL56KD Massed Choir Concert and Community Singing!

Kopkora koncerts
Rīkotājs: Roberts Birze
AL56KD Kopkora koncerts notiks skaistajā, cēlajā St Kilda pilsētas namā, kurš iepriekšējās Melburnas Kultūras dienās tika dēvēts par „Operas namu“. Telpas atrodas pāris soļu attālumā no Melburnas Latviešu nama.
