Tervetes children’s summer camp will be held for the 30th time in 2017. The week long camp is for children from seven to thirteen years of age.
Previously in Victoria, the Melbourne Latvian Holy Cross church held a camp called Sprīdīši in Daylesford. When the church sold the property, Spridisi, the Melbourne Guides and Scouts began to organize a children’s summer camp at their property, Tērvete. The children’s camp Tērvete has now been running for thirty years.
The camp takes place in January each year at the Latvian Guide and Scout property “Tērvete”, close to Kilmore in Victoria. The aim of the camp is to educate children in Latvian culture and language as well as make new friends.
The next camp will begin on Monday 2 January. Each year, the camp has a theme and in 2017 the theme will be “Australian Story”. Children will learn about the Aborigines who have lived in Australia and also about the Latvians who arrived in Australia after the Second World War.
Activities for the children will include obstacle courses, singing, religious studies, swimming, crafts, outdoor games and activities based around the theme. During their free time many children also like to ride their bikes through the bush and make modifications to the BMX track. On the last Saturday night of camp we will celebrate with a costume ball while on Sunday 8th of January the children will perform in a final concert!
Last year 28 children from Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and New Zealand attended. Sixteen adults volunteered for the duration of the camp and spent a great week with the children.

Pašā jaunā gada sākumā, no 2. līdz 8. janvārim savu trīsdesmito darbības vasaru atsāks Austrālijas latviešu bērnu nometne “Tērvete”. Vasaras nometne ir nedēļu gara nometne bērniem no septiņiem līdz trīspadsmit gadiem.
Kad Svētā Krusta baznīcas rīkotā bērnu nometne “Sprīdīši” izbeidza savu darbību un tai piederošo īpašumu pārdeva, tad latviešu bērnu nometnes rīkošanu pārņēma Melburnas Gaidu un Skautu vienība.
Nometnes mērķis ir sniegt bērniem latvisko audzināšanu, pārrunāt dzīves vērtības, papildināt zināšanas un protams iegūt jaunus draugus!
Katru gadu nometnei ir izraudzīta speciāla tēma, šoreiz tā būs „Austrālijas Stāsts”. Bērni varēs apgūt zināšanas par to kā aborigēni dzīvoja Austrālijā pirms ieradās baltie cilvēki un arī par latviešiem, kuri iebrauca Austrālijā pēc otrā pasaules kara.
Nodarbības bērniem ietvers šķēršļu gājienu, dziedāšanu, garīgās pārrunas, peldēšanu, rokdarbus, āra rotaļas un tēmu nodarbības. Brīvajā laikā daudziem bērniem patīk braukāt ar riteņiem pa mežu un būvēt BMX trases. Pēdējā sestdienas vakarā piedalīsimies kostīmu ballē un svētdien, 8. janvārī būs noslēguma koncerts!
Pagāšajā nometnē piedalījās 28 bērni no Adelaides, Brisbanes, Melburnas un Jaunzēlandes. Nometnes nedēļā palīdzēja un kopā ar bērniem pavadīja laiku 16 vecāki!
