Latvians in Australia have since 1952 competed in 13 Australian Latvian Championship sports. This year four Australian Latvian Championship sports are planned. Three will run concurrently with the Australian Latvian Cultural Festival in Melbourne, basketball, volleyball and golf. The fourth sport, novuss, will be held in Adelaide in August.
Sports leaders in each of the sports have been selected and tournament organisation has begun. To participate in the Australian Latvian Championships players must be registered with club or groups that are registered with the Australian Latvian Sports Association (ALSP) and comply with ALSP statutes.
The 46th Australian Latvian Basketball Championship: The championship will be held over three days, 29th-31st of December from 9:00-13:00 at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, Melbourne. Valdis Kirps (MLS leader, tel: 0425 797 444) and Juris Misins are the basketball and volleyball tournament organisers.
The 26th Australian Latvian Voleyball championship. Games will be held at the same time and place as the basketball if enough teams register.
The 15th Australian Latvian Golf championship.The games will be held on the 27th of December at Heidelberg golf club. Play will be divided into two groups – the first will comprise players with an official Golf Australia handicaps to play off for the Arnold Gutman perpetual trophy and the Australian Latvian Golf Championship honour, playing the stableford system. The second group without an official handicap will play using the stroke system. Robert Blakis (ph: 0423 040 720) will organise the golf tournament.
The 38th Australian Latvian Novuss championship. Games will be held on the 20th and 21st of August at Adelaide’s Talava. Janis Lindbergs, leader of the Adelaide Latvian Sports Club will organise the championship.
Sports Congress. The Sports Congress will held on the 29th of December after the last basketball game, around 13:00 at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
Jau kopš 1952. gada latvieši Autrālijā ir piedalījušies 13 ALM sporta nozarēs.
Šogad ir paredzētas Austrālijas Latviešu Meistarsacīkstes četrās sporta nozarēs. Trīs sacīkstes notiks Kultūras Dienu laikā Melburnā – basketbols, volejbols un golfs. Ceturtais – novuss, tiks rīkots augusta mēnesī Adelaidē.
Nozaru vadītāji ir izraudzīti un turnīru organizēšana ir jau sākusies. Lai varētu ņemt dalību ALM turnīros spēlētājiem jāsastāv reģistrētos klubos vai kopās, kuras ir reģistrētas Austrālijas Latviešu Sporta Pārvaldēs (ALSP) un izpilda ALSP statūtu vajadzības.
- ALM basketbola turnīrs: Spēles notiks 29., 30. un 31. decembrī no pulkstens 09.00 līdz 13.00, Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) Albert Parkā Melburnā. Valdis Kirps (MLS vadītājs, tel. 0425 797 444) ar Juri Misiņu ir atbildīgie turnīra organizatori basketbolam un volejbolam.
- ALM volejbola turnīrs: Spēles notiks tanī pašā laikā un vietā kā basketbols, tad, ja būs pieteiktas turnīram pietiekoši daudz vienības.
- ALM golfa turnīrs: Spēles notiks 27. decembrī Heidelbergas golfa klubā. Spēles notiks divās grupās – pirmā grupā spēlētāji ar oficiālu Golf Australia handicap lai izcinītu Arnolda Gutmana ceļojošo balvu un ALM meistara godu, spēlēs stableford systemu. Otrā grupa bez oficiāliem handicap spēlēs stroke systemu. Roberts Blāķis (tel. 0423 040 720 ) ir atbildīgais organizators.
- ALM novusa turnīrs: Spēles notiks 20. un 21. augustā Tālavā, Adelaides latviešu namā. Turnīru organizē Jānis Lindbergs, ASK vadītājs.
Sporta Kongress
Kongress notiks 29. decembrī pēc pēdējās basketbola spēles, apmēram pulkstens 13.00, Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre telpās Albert Park.
