The Sydney Latvian Male Choir was established in 1956 and as such is the oldest existing Latvian male choir outside Latvia. The choir has continuously participated in Australian Latvian Cultural Festivals, presented its own annual concerts and been a regular contributor to significant secular and religious events in Sydney Latvian society. It has a strong history of generations of family members standing shoulder to shoulder – upholding the long held traditions of Latvian choral music. The choir consists of 35 members with ages ranging from 17 to 91. Rehearsals take place at the Latvian House in Strathfield on Monday evenings and new members are always welcome. The choir has an extensive repertoire and performs works by well- known traditional choral composers as well as modern, popular contemporary pieces.

The great love of Latvian music and their homeland, is reflected by the choristers enthusiasm and their willingness to give of their time in rehearsals, year after year. They really love singing!

Since 1981 the choir’s musical director and conductor has been Daina Jaunberzins and from 2012 Ivars Stubis has commenced his conducting career.

The Sydney Latvian Male Choir will celebrate its 60th anniversary on the 6th November 2016.
